What changes when you work it

  • Work a diagnostic that returns a study order weighted by the content outline rather than a score.
  • Recognise a second-best answer for what it is, before the exam asks you to choose one.
  • Work dosage, days supply, conversion and flow-rate math against questions that show the arithmetic.
  • Separate the federal requirements that carry a number from the ones that carry a judgment.
  • Sit two timed practice exams mixed in the outline's proportions, against the clock the real exam allows.
  • Name the misconception behind every wrong option you pick, so the same error stops repeating.

How the book is organised

One chapter per area, in the published proportions. The diagnostic and both practice exams are drawn at the same weights.

Area of the examShare of the exam
MedicationsGeneric and brand names, therapeutic classes, interactions, storage and the look-alike pairs that cause errors.35%
Patient Safety and Quality AssuranceError prevention, high-alert medications, verification steps, and what to do when a step was missed.23.75%
Order Entry and ProcessingSig interpretation, days supply, dosage and flow-rate math, compounding, and the labels that leave the pharmacy.22.5%
Federal RequirementsControlled-substance schedules, refills and transfers, recordkeeping, packaging rules and supply-chain assertions.18.75%

What is different about the explanations

Most prep books explain the correct answer and leave the other three alone. Every explanation here does four things, in this order.

01

Why the key is right

Traced back to the task statement in the published content outline that the question was written from.

02

Why the wrong option was tempting

The misconception behind it, named. A wrong answer is built out of something, and that something has a name.

03

The detail that rules it out

The words in the question itself that make the option wrong, so the tell is one you can use again.

04

The key against the next best

One line separating the answer from the one most candidates take instead. On a scenario exam that gap is the whole exam.

Two questions from the book

Taken from the bank as they are printed, with the whole explanation.

Medications · MED-1.5

A patient is starting a course of metronidazole. According to the label, what must the patient avoid during therapy and for at least three days afterward?

  1. AAlcohol
  2. BMilk products
  3. CCitrus juice
  4. DHigh‑fiber meals

The answer is A

Why it is right. Metronidazole’s label warns of a disulfiram‑like reaction when alcohol is consumed, requiring avoidance of alcohol and propylene glycol‑containing products during therapy and for at least three days afterward.

Why each of the others was tempting

  • BAlcohol‑like interaction with dairy

Would be right if: The drug had a known calcium interaction.

What rules it out: Metronidazole’s warning specifically involves alcohol, not dairy.

  • CGrapefruit interaction

Would be right if: The medication were a CYP3A4 substrate.

What rules it out: No grapefruit interaction is listed for metronidazole.

  • DFiber affects absorption

Would be right if: The drug’s label warned about fiber.

What rules it out: Metronidazole’s label does not mention fiber.

The key against the next best. Only alcohol is explicitly contraindicated with metronidazole due to the disulfiram‑like reaction.

Federal Requirements · FR-2.4

A customer asks a rural pharmacy for an over-the-counter scheduled listed chemical product in gel-cap form. How must the pharmacy package this product for sale?

  1. AIn bulk containers holding up to one hundred capsules per package.
  2. BIn blister packs containing no more than two capsules per blister.
  3. CIn unit‑dose packets only if the pharmacy obtains a special DEA permit.
  4. DIn any packaging as long as the label shows dosage and warnings.

The answer is B

Why it is right. The regulation permits sale of a scheduled listed chemical product in non‑liquid form only in blister packs with a maximum of two dosage units per blister, or in unit‑dose packets when blister packs are infeasible. The pharmacy is not using a bulk container, a permit is not required, and label alone does not satisfy the packaging rule.

Why each of the others was tempting

  • Abulk sale allowed

Would be right if: the product were not a scheduled listed chemical.

What rules it out: The stem specifies a scheduled listed chemical product, which must follow the blister‑pack rule.

  • Cpermit required for unit‑dose packets

Would be right if: the law required a permit for unit‑dose packaging.

What rules it out: The fact states unit‑dose packets are permissible without a permit when blister packs are infeasible.

  • Dlabel alone suffices

Would be right if: the regulation only required labeling, not packaging constraints.

What rules it out: The regulation explicitly mandates blister‑pack or unit‑dose packaging, not merely labeling.

The key against the next best. Only option B follows the specific packaging limitation for scheduled listed chemical products; the others rely on incorrect assumptions about bulk containers, permits, or labeling.

What is in the book

  • A diagnostic that returns a study order weighted by the content outline, so a gap in the 35 percent medications area outranks a gap in the 18.75 percent federal requirements area.
  • One chapter per knowledge area, following the outline's own areas in its own proportions.
  • Questions in sets of ten, with the answers starting on a later page, so reading ahead by accident is not possible.
  • Two timed practice exams, mixed in the outline's proportions and worked against the clock the real exam allows.
  • Calculation questions whose explanations show the arithmetic step by step, not just the result.
  • A second-best-answer drill, a misconception index, a task cross-reference and a glossary.

Who this book is for

  • You have finished a pharmacy technician program or are training on the job and want the gaps found early.
  • You keep landing on the second-best answer in practice tests and cannot see what separates it from the key.
  • You are retesting and need to know what the wrong answers were built out of, not another content review.

Who should pick something else

  • Anyone who has not yet covered the material. This is a question bank, not a textbook.
  • Anyone looking for recalled questions from a real exam. Every question here is original and written from the published content outline.

Questions before you buy

Which formats do I get when I buy here?

The EPUB for any reader app and the print-layout PDF. Both download the moment payment completes, and both are yours to keep.

Are these questions from a real exam?

No. Every question is original and written from the published content outline alone. Nothing here comes from anyone's exam recall, and no question is modelled on a real exam item.

How many questions are in the book?

281 distinct questions. The diagnostic, the two timed practice exams and the second-best-answer drill all draw on that same bank, so the number counts questions rather than repeats.

Will it open on my Kindle, phone or tablet?

Yes. The EPUB opens in Apple Books, Google Play Books, Kobo and every reader app, and Kindle devices accept it through Amazon's Send to Kindle. The PDF opens anywhere.

Does the book promise a pass?

No, and no book can. It shows which answers are wrong and what each wrong answer was built out of, before the exam asks. It is an independent study aid and is not endorsed by Pharmacy Technician Certification Board.

What is the refund policy?

The site's standard 30-day refund policy, the same as for everything else sold here: email the address on your receipt within 30 days of purchase. The refunds page has the full terms.
